Malta
Guy Dunwoody, Director of Marketing Operations at TMG Events, writes:
"When I was asked to visit Malta and experience the conference and incentive offering, I couldn't help but think of its perceived image as a destination for older clients with little or nothing to do.
I visited with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised with the stunning scenery, rich history, impressive hotels and exciting and original activities on offer. The destination also offers unbelievable value for money.
Getting
there and back:
Malta is easily accessible from the UK. Air Malta offers a comprehensive
choice of flights to and from the UK. The flight time from the
UK is only 3 hours.
Where
to stay: I recommend staying at the Radisson Golden
Sands Resort and Spa which although slightly more remote than
other accommodation options, is the most exclusive Five Star
Resort and Spa in Malta. It is brilliantly located on the edge
of the cliff overlooking Malta's unique Sandy beach - Golden
Bay.
The value for money you get from a 5* hotel in Malta is nothing
short of phenomenal.
What to do: I was impressed with the range of fresh and exciting activities available on Malta, an island that seems custom made for groups. The island's small size lends itself to sports and team building events that can be island wide. Options include film-making weekends, sailing regattas (which can even be turned into team battles) cycling, golf, archery, diving and a Maltese Cooking Challenge which will tickle your taste buds. Of course you cannot visit Malta without experiencing the Island of Gozo and tiny Comino - its sheltered Blue Lagoon is a must see.
Where to eat: There is plenty to offer in terms of restaurants and eateries. My particular favourite was De Mondian restaurant. Located up in picturesque Medina, the former Maltese capital, De Mondian provided excellent food with a stunning view across the island. Watch out for the seemingly endless Saturday night firework display.
There's
much more to this island than I originally anticipated. Malta
already has prime status as a conference destination with impressive
and large hotels. After visiting this surprising destination
I also feel that Malta would provide an impressive and exclusive
backdrop to any incentive."
